Harry, 1997 (Wales)
Something that reminds you of living, being at peace, feeling happy:
…Eat unhealthy food, spend money on take away…Would be the first to come to mind. Uh, eating chocolate and pudding, and whatever you want whenever. When I was in Uni I didn’t eat properly. I just ate junk food all the time. That makes you happy… Lying in bed and not having to get up straight away. That’s another good one. Wait what was the question again? … Skateboarding, Skateboarding with my mates. Walking or camping maybe… Sitting around a fire at night time in the middle of the woods. That’s good. When it rains, I like the sound of the rain. How many more do you need?
What’s your first memory as a child?
Uh… I remember…I think I was about four years old. And I remember in the morning we had these shutters which you had to close to stop the light getting through and for stopping people breaking into the house. Mum was closing them. Joel was about to go to school. I was about to go to a place a bit like a nursery. And I remember Joel saying:” I’ll be ten in three years.” Which means I was about four then. Not really a memory… Uh… I remember… I had a childminder, Someone who would look after me, when my mum was working. I went to their house and I would stay there the whole day. I remember sitting on the sofa watching “CBBC”, which is a kids TV. And I used to eat Nutella sandwiches. That was always very nice. That will do.
What pictures or thoughts come to mind when I say these following words?
Protest/to protest: Violence, fire, glass, broken glass as well. Protesting involves violence, doesn’t it? It’s not suppose to, but in order to get a word across sometimes the only way is to use violence, isn’t it, so that’s why during most protests you will find there being violence and fire.
Have you been to any protests?
No I haven’t. But I’ve seen a lot of them.
Power: Money, because most powerful people are rich.
Society : Communication, socialising. People talking with each other in a formal way.
How do you see the world in 50 years? (realistically)
The rich will get richer and the poor will become more poor. And also, in 50 years time we will reach a population where the population can get no bigger. And it will just stay, people will die but at the same time people will be born. Reach an equilibrium, you know. And everyone will have an electrical car, everything’s gonna be electrical.
What does “being” human mean?
Uh…to.. I don’t know to breathe, to live. To survive. In some conditions surviving. Love, as well! There’s no life without love, basically.
What do you believe in?
That’s a bit vague. Depends what you mean… You could’ve asked what I don’t believe in.
Well, what don’t you believe in?
I don’t believe in being nasty to people… I believe in that there’s in religious terms… that space has something to do with people’s personalities, so depending when you’re born and the position of the stars…
Astrology?
Yeah, like horoscopes. I’m a firm believer in stuff like that… I don’t believe there’s a god but I believe almost in a higher entity, that knows what’s going on in the universe. But it doesn’t have control at the same time. If you get me.
Anything to add?
Sometimes you can’t always play the good cards, you know, say life is like playing cards. You get a set amount of cards, sometimes you have good cards, sometimes bad ones. But no matter what, you still have to play your cards. So, I think you still got to play the bad cards even though it’s hard. There’s now light without the dark basically, so yeah…
